Maruti Suzuki is all set to make its official entry into India’s growing electric car market. The company’s first-ever electric SUV, the Maruti e-Vitara, is expected to launch in December this year. The project gained major attention after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s Hybrid Battery Electrode Manufacturing Unit in Hansalpur, Gujarat, on August 26. During the same event, he also flagged off the export of the e-Vitara, marking a big milestone for the brand’s global electric strategy.

Global Manufacturing and Export Network

The e-Vitara is designed as a global electric SUV, manufactured in India and exported to over 100 countries, including key markets like Europe and Japan. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) began exports of the e-Vitara from Pipavav Port in Gujarat on September 1. In August alone, the company shipped over 2,900 units to 12 European countries, such as the UK, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium. This shows how strongly Maruti is positioning India as a hub for global electric vehicle production.

Dimensions and Power Options

The e-Vitara is 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,640 mm tall, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It features an advanced 3-in-1 electric powertrain system that integrates the motor, inverter, and transmission for improved efficiency.

Buyers will get two battery options to choose from:

  • A 49 kWh battery powering a 144 hp motor with 189 Nm torque
  • A 61 kWh battery paired with a 174 hp motor delivering 189 Nm torque

These configurations are designed to offer a balanced mix of power, range, and performance for both city and highway driving.

Premium Interior and Features

The e-Vitara’s cabin is designed to deliver a premium and comfortable driving experience. It features a twin-deck floating console, a digital cockpit, and a custom steering wheel. The interior combines soft-touch dual-tone materials with multi-color ambient lighting, giving it a modern, sophisticated look.

It comes equipped with advanced technology, including a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch driver display, wireless connectivity, and a Harman-tuned audio system. Comfort features include ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 40:20:40 split rear seat that reclines, slides, and offers boot access for added flexibility.

Safety and Build Quality

In terms of safety, Maruti has ensured the e-Vitara meets international standards. The SUV’s body structure is made with over 50% high-tensile steel and reinforced with a battery protection system for added durability.

Standard safety features include seven airbags (including a driver knee airbag), electronic parking brake, all-disc brakes, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an e-Call emergency response system. The e-Vitara also supports Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), offering features like lane assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning for enhanced driving safety.
